Thank You for Choosing ASV for your Child’s Summer
The Summer Program coordination team wishes to take a moment to express our gratitude for choosing ASV Summer Programs 2024. We are thrilled to have been a part of your child’s summer experience.
This edition has been incredibly rewarding:
- We successfully completed three learning programs.
- We introduced new activities that have enriched the summer language experience.
- Students engaged in the understanding of UN Sustainable Development Goals and the global challenges
- We hope we have inspired their young minds to create a better future in an interconnected world.
The ASV Summer Programs have offered a fun and engaging environment where children could make lasting friendships and build confidence. Their smiles every morning, when entering our campus, is a sign of this achievement.
We hope your children enjoyed this month at ASV as much as our teachers and the ASV staff enjoyed having them.
Best wishes for a wonderful rest of the summer!
Celebrations of Learning
The Celebration of Learning is an activity deeply rooted in the ASV culture. In these events, parents are invited to come and participate in varied learning activities led by students and teachers. Children enjoy the opportunity of sharing what they have been learning in their Summer program and parents see the wide range of writing projects, artwork and presentations made during this month.
Preschool Classes
Parents rotated across diverse learning centers having a variety of games and activities.
Level Up Your English and Discover America
Parents watched presentations, participated in learning games fully designed by our students and competed with students in online quizzes.
STEAM Summerland
STEAM groups had short presentations and then moved onto a showcase of their coding and design projects.
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Since the 2021-2022 Academic Year, American School of Valencia has been working on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) across a broad spectrum of areas. The ASV Summer Programs are part of this effort and since 2023 the coordinating team puts a special emphasis on aligning contents and activities -in both Elementary and Secondary classes- with the SDGs. Our goal is for students to become familiar with this call to action both in an entertaining and reflective way.
Here are some special activities taking place during the third week of the Summer Programs:
The UN SDG Gymkana
Learning Activities about the SDG
Thrilling Week for the Discover America Program
Students enrolled in the Discover American program had an interesting and thrilling week aligned with the curriculum content about Colorado and American natural wonders. The first special activities began on Tuesday, when students were invited to come dressed as explorers or as wild animals. Camping routines inspired the Teddy Bear Gymkhana, which included a table where kids could prepare jam sandwiches.
On Wednesday, Beavers and Bears watched the Bug Stories theater play in the pine area located by the swimming pool. On Thursday, five groups went to Gilet to take a hike, see the forest and learn more about the most common insects in this part of the Calderona mountains.
Some classes also participated in a first aid workshop led in English by one of our coordinators, Ms. Casas.
American Football takes the ASV Summer Programs
Level Up Your English and Discover America classes approached an very popular sport in the United States: American Football. Thanks to our collaboration with Valencia Giants, a local club, students have learned how the sport is played and why it is so deeply woven in American culture.
In addition to some class work connected with this topic, these are the special activities carried on July 11 and 12:
Super Bowl Party in Preschool
Football for beginners: learning to move, pass and tackle
Exhibition game with students
What an Exciting First Week!
After months waiting for the arrival of our summer students, we are pleased to say that the first week was an absolute blast, and we are sure that children have lots of exciting stories to tell about their first days on the ASV campus.
First Day
The first day is all about getting familiar with the place and making new friends. All groups engaged in fun icebreakers and activities to get to know each other and familiarize themselves with the classroom and common areas. It was raining during the first part of the morning, but this was not a problem to have a great day.
4th of July Celebration
The 4th of July is embedded into the first week and drives some learning activities related to North American culture and the differences between the United States and Spain. This year, the celebration took place on Friday, July 5 and included a parade (the youngest students early in the day, the rest at 3:00 p.m.), a gymkhana with games inspired by the Declaration of Independence. Finally, students enjoyed a special lunch with burgers, roast potatoes and chocolate brownies. Teachers and children were invited to come dressed in red, blue and white clothes.
Be Creative!
Students enrolled in the Level Up Your English program combine language lessons with other creative projects addressed to creating class-spirit and learn common words used in a classroom environment. Some of this week’s handicrafts were made to wear during the 4th of July celebration.
PBIS: Positive Feedback with Morning Routines
In connection with ASV CARE Values and the specific value “Speak in English”, students are encouraged to get immersed in this language by completing some routines. One of them takes place every day when they arrive: the staff at the main gate encourages them to speak in English through asking a simple question related to the program and its activities. They are rewarded with CARE points that will be counted in each class by the end of the week.
One Week to Go!
Just one week until the start of the 2024 Summer Programs! Our summer staff and the coordination team are ready to offer an extraordinary learning experience in each one of the three pathways: Level Up Your English, STEAM Summerland and Discover America.
Families of registered students should review the private web page where the student handbook has been published. Please pay special attention to the arrival and dismissal procedures, student materials and health and safety. The school will send an email soon with specific information such as your child’s teacher and schedule and, if it is the case, the bus route.
On the other hand, we can confirm that the enrollment is over and all of the available spots in the three programs have been filled. Thank you for supporting the ASV Summer Programs!
