Information for shareholders

SHAREHOLDERS

American School of Valencia is a limited liability corporation in which most parents hold shares.
Parents must purchase a share of the school when registering their child, provided the child will remain at the school for more than four academic years. Families may purchase up to two shares. Families enrolling children for less than four years do not purchase a share. Conditions for these families are outlined in the section entitled “Temporary Registration”.
Holding a share confers the rights and obligations that stem from prevailing legislation for limited liability corporations and the statutes of the school.
American School of Valencia (Colegio Hispano-Norteamericano, S.A.) repurchases the shares from parents whose child finishes his/her studies (Grade 12) at the school (or who completes Grade 12 at another school), provided that the number of new shareholders entering the school covers those leaving. There are legal limitations on the number of shares held at any one time.

TEMPORARY REGISTRATION

Students registered at the school for less than four academic years will be considered temporary.
A non-refundable registration fee must be paid each academic year. The fee is the same for all grade levels. The monthly tuition fees are the same as for shareholders.

ADMISSIONS POLICY

Parents who wish to enrol their son or daughter at the preschool level must request an interview with the Admissions Coordinator and the Director. Students applying for admission at the Elementary and High School levels are considered on an individual basis.  Factors taken into consideration in the enrolment process are: evaluation of previous academic records, teacher reports, evaluation of performance in the ASV admissions tests and available space. From 7th grade, a complete transcript is required. This certificate must be legalized if the student is coming from outside of the European Union or stamped with The Hague seal if the country has signed this agreement.
Further information will be provided at the School for the exemption of “Valenciano” studies. Preference is given to students with siblings already attending the school and to English speaking students.

NURSERY STUDENTS

When enrolling in the nursery program, parents do not purchase a share as this is not an academic progam. Families will purchase a share if their son/daughter continues at ASV in PreKinder 1.

PRESCHOOL STUDENTS

The preschool years are very important for children in order to develop skills and to be able to function in a bilingual environment. Families need to be aware that the school will evaluate the progress of their child in Spanish as well as in English. It is the school’s obligation to inform parents/guardians of any difficulties that might arise if the child were to continue in a bilingual program. The school will determine, after working closely with parents and after careful testing, reporting and documentation, whether or not a bilingual education is indeed appropriate for their child. For this reason admission into the Preschool Program is considered a Pre-enrolment into the Elementary Program, and not a guarantee of placement.
